Two of the largest rivers in the world come together right in front of Santarem, the Amazon and the Tapajos.  On the Santarem City Tour, you will have the opportunity to see the "meeting of the waters" and the many riverboats coming and going to the riverside villages in this part of the Amazon.  Included in the 3-4 hour tour is a stop at the largest market place between Belem and Manaus, the Mercadao 2000.  There will also be a visit to Praca Mirante, (Outlook Square) from where you can get a fantastic view of the two rivers coming together, the clear water of the Tapajos with the muddy water of the Amazon.  There will be another stop at the local Joao Fona Museum to see the small but exquisite collection of Tapajonica ceramics.  And yet another stop in the commercial section of town for shopping at the arts and crafts stores and other establishments.  Your guide will also point out some of the restaurants in town where you can eat some of the finest fish in the world.
